I'm tired of hearing about changes in electricity and gas prices so I want to do something about it - I think it's time that I made further use of my own price comparison web site compare electricity and gas prices .

While I'm doing that I might check the broadband internet comparison facility too. I'm curently with Bulldog who have the worst customer service I've seen for a long time. However I've had hardly any problems to date so maybe I shouldn't be too hasty to change - I'd hate to be without my fast broadband internet connection!

Also I could switch telephone companies and getting cheaper phone bills as well...

Can microwaves get even cheaper?

Suddenly it seems that microwave ovens are impossibly cheap when you consider what they can do these days! When you consider the technology involved, the features and then add in the costs of manufacture, transporting, packaging etc. - quite impressive!

A good example is the Panasonic NNE255W microwave ovenwhich (at the moment) can be bought for under £60!! Okay, some shops have it listed as high as £70 but the lowest price right now is £58.99 (+P&P) which just doesn't seem possible. How can they stay in business? Do we care if we can get cheap electrical goods?

The book price comparison section has been a little neglected lately while I've been putting more effort into the electronics price comparison and household appliances price comparison sections.

I have already fixed a couple of smaller problems with the live book price search so that more shops can be searched live online. Next on the list is improvements to the book chart updates behind the scenes and then the search will be on for more online book shops to be included.

Looking for a good fridge freezer

I was searching for a decent fridge freezer the other day without any luck. I don't want anything fancy and certainly dont need any fancy gadgets, flashing lights or internet connection! Eventually I came across the Hotpoint FFM84X Fridge Freezer which seems to be exactly what I need so I think I'll be getting it pretty soon!

It has good shelving and storage space without being too big or bulky and most importantly while not being too expensive at around £430 (including delivery).

It may sound a lot of money for a fridge freezer but as its a quality brand like Hotpoint I don't think this can be beaten as value for money but I will compare fridge freezer prices to be certain!

I can personally vouch for the Topfield Freeview recorder as I've bought one myself! I'm so impressed I don't know how I managed before...

You can record almost 90 hours of Digital TV from up to 2 different channels at any one time, custom software can be uploaded to this box via USB plus it comes in black and silver (and possibly White I think). Perhaps best of all - you can download recorded programs to your PC and if required convert them for burning to DVD from there!

Jamie Dart CD album

On September 24th, 2005, Canadian singer (and songwriter) Jamie Dart released her first full-length album called "Great Expectations". Jamie co-wrote the ten songs on the album, including the single "Compromise" and the album is available to buy online at www.da27.com. You can't compare CD prices on this album as it's not widely available in the UK but you could be one of the few bright sparks to get in there first before word spreads!

With gas price rises by British Gas, EDF and Scottish Power perhaps it's a good time to compare gas prices or electricity prices. These energy price rises are in the region of 15%-22% which is a massive increase by any standards!

The bottom line seems to be that domestic gas consumers need to compare gas prices

Just a quick post - I've recently added small shop logo images instead of the text version of the shop names. It's not much in the overall scheme of things I know but it improves the recognition of each retailer plus give a more colourful look to the electrical price comparison pages! :)

Once I get the last few in place then I can look to add the same thing to the household appliance price comparisons as well...

The great Xbox shambles?

Apparently, things are getting worse for potential Xbox buyers... Amazon.co.uk is now restricting the number of Xbox 360 Consoles customers can order to make sure that as many people as possible can get hold of an Xbox 360 in time for Christmas.

The new Xbox 360 is due to hit UK shops on 2nd December but many reports suggest that only 300,000 consoles have made it to Europe.

I'm updating the cheapest XBOX price information regularly to take into account any changes in supply following the xupply problems that they suffered in the US.

Hopefully UK XBOX suppliers won't suffer the same fate but I notice that some are already reporting their stock has already been reserved and they don't know when they will be getting more XBOX consoles in!

Book price search changes

As promised earlier, updates are already underway with the Book price comparison section with the addition of the History Bookshop to the price search facility.

There has also been some changes to the book chart prices section so that the data is more up to date and also the images load faster

Online electrical retailers to be penalised?

Apparently, it is alleged that manufacturers have been raising wholesale prices for online retailers. This ultimately means the online stores will be unable to undercut High Street prices and online prices will go up.

I thought one of the main principles for online shopping websites was that cheaper prices are possible due to lower overheads? This seems to cancel that out straight away!

Freeview Digital TV box prices

I'm sure that we're all now expecting so much more for our money - I came across this Humax PVR8000 Freeview box the other day and it even has an 80Gb hard drive in it (similar to the Sky+ box I think).

What amazed me was that this is on sale for around £130 (it was as low as £120 a few weeks ago!) and it seems a hell of an offer to me so I'll probably get me one of them!

I'm back but I don't think anyone missed me!

Same old, same old

I'm continuing to add more prices and products to the new CONSUMER ELECTRONICS and HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES sections whenever I get a chance.

Both these sections appear to be working well with very few problems for me to deal with so it looks likely that I can also come up with a PC HARDWARE section and maybe even a COMPUTER GAME section too. It all seems fairly easy apart from finding the time and putting in the hours of course!

Woolworths, Streetsonline and MVC problems

There has been a few problems with the updates for the CD price comparison and also in a similar way on the DVD price comparison over the last couple of days.

After spending quite some time on the problem yesterday it was first traced to a problem getting prices from Woolworths website so that I had no choice but to remove them from the comparisons.

I've kept an eye on things and now it seems that the MVC and StreetsOnline websites are also having problems so they're are also temporarily removed.

As they're all very closely linked websites, it's presumably all related to this story on the BBC web site about Woolworths selling off MVC and I suspect that means StreetsOnline goes with that too.

Shame really but perhaps it's only a short term problem - if they come back online again I can easily add them back into the price comparisons!

Apple iPod Nano now listed

For some reason, the automated updates failed to pick up the new Apple iPod Nano which some shops now have on sale. I'm still investigating the cause but in the meantime I've added them by hand for the few shops where I could find it on offer so you can still compare prices on the iPod Nano

A nice looking piece of kit but I'm still an iRiver man at heart and can't find a fault with my "old" iHP-140...

Pure Bug DAB Digital Radio

I was just checking some things on the site and decided to compare prices for the Pure Bug DAB Digital Radio to check a few things.

WOW is all I can say... It's a nice looking piece of kit and DAB digital radio is the future obviously but I couldn't believe the difference in prices which ranged from under £100 to nearly £130

Some of these online electrical retailers are having a laugh (and it's not funny)...all the more reason to compare prices online whenever possible

At long last the new and improved electrical price comparison section can be unveiled to the waiting millions... who didn't even realise they were waiting or even what it was exactly what they were waiting for!

This new section features a much greater range of products and, more importantly from my perspective, a hugely improved database structure for easy management.

But this blogging system really is quite easy to use - I've even managed to sort out thehosting of this blog on the Online Price Guide server rather than with the Blogger.com address. I was sure this would be harder than it actually turned out to be!

Of course, maybe it's not that simple and I'm actually an internet wizard with a gift for all things technical... I doubt it though when I consider the time spent getting the website this far!

If you believe all the hype in the papers and on the net then if you don't blog you're a nobody! In reality though it seems that even nobodies like me can easily set up a blog so I'm not sure what to think now!

So here I am - plus I also thought it might be a easy way to set up a "web site diary" for my price comparison website. Partly as a record of the work I've done at various times for my own purposes but mainly so that others can get an insight into the work involved in running the website. Of course, I'm assuming that anyone wants that sort of insight but it's tough luck now - they've got it! :)
